Hexham Relief Roads Project – Notification of Out of Hours Works November 2013

The Upper Hunter Valley Alliance (UHVA) wishes to advise of potential out of hours works (OOHW) and changes in traffic conditions during November 2013 for the Hexham Relief Roads Project (the Project). Theseworks have been scheduled to facilitate pre-construction activities and site establishment.

Delivery of materials

OOHWs are provisionally scheduled Monday 4 November to Friday 8 November 2013 from 6:00 pm to 6:30 am, to facilitate the delivery of materials to site via Woodlands Close, whilst maintaining driver safety and stable traffic flows during peak periods on the New England Highway.

What to expect

Changes in traffic conditions
During these periods, please be advised of the following:

  • trucks will be turning into Woodlands Close from the New England Highway
  • single lane closure on the westbound carriageway of the New England Highway
  • single lane available for public use on New England Highway at a reduced speed of 40 km p/h
  • signage will be in place.

Works within the rail corridor
Lighting towers will be set up near the northern end of the Project site (see map for location) and a small site team will work to unload materials from the delivery trucks. It is not anticipated that these works would generate significant noise.

Delivery of rail

OOHWs are scheduled Wednesday 6 November 2013 from 7:00 pm to 1:00 am, to facilitate the delivery of steel rail via train.

What to expect

Lighting towers will be set up at two locations inside the rail corridor at the northern and southern end of the Project (see map for location). Small site teams will work to unload the track from the train and stockpile within the Project boundary. These works are expected to take a total of two hours to complete once the delivery train has arrived.

Hexham Freight Loop – signal works

The Hexham Freight Loop was completed in 2012, as part of the Northern Sydney Freight Corridor Upgrade Project for the Australian Rail Track Corporation.

OOHWs are scheduled Saturday 9 November and Sunday 10 November 2013 from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, to facilitate signalling rectification works on the existing Hexham Freight Loop. These works will include the removal of redundant cabling, installation of new cabling and signalling testing works.

What to expect

Works will be conducted at various locations within the rail corridor between Hexham Station and the Tarro rail overpass during the day. It is not anticipated that these works would generate significant noise.

Minimising Impacts

During these works you may notice an increase in heavy and light vehicles in and around the site and team members working within the rail corridor. UHVA asks that residents are mindful of the changed traffic conditions and drive with caution. To minimise impacts to residents, all lighting towers will be directed away from residential properties. UHVA will aim to ensure that all vehicles are fitted with ‘quackers’, where possible, to minimise noise generated by reversing beepers.

UHVA is committed to minimising the impacts of the Project’s construction on the community and welcomes your feedback at any time. If you have any questions or comments regarding these works please call the community information line 1800 722 669 (toll free).
